Identifying Your App in iTunes Connect
The App Store is a highly competitive,vibrant, and constantly evolving digital marketplace where success requires athoughtful strategy and a desire to delight users. iTunes Connect is your toolto manage and maintain your apps on iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.
Design Your App Store Product Page
Some of the metadata you enter in iTunesConnect—such as the app name, icon, and screenshots—appears directly on the AppStore product page. To prepare the following metadata about your app thatappears on the product page, go to App Store ProductPagefirst. Later, you’ll enter this information in iTunes Connect.

- Categories
Note: The company name defaults to the legal entity name youenter when you enroll in the Apple Developer Program. If you enroll as acompany, you can set the company name (distinct from your legal entity name)only once when you add your first app, as described in Creatingan iTunes Connect Record for an App. The company name must be a registeredDBA or trade name. The company name will be used for all your apps and can’t bechanged later. If you enroll as an individual, the company name is the same asyour legal name. In the store, the “company name” is used prominently fornavigation and to group your apps. Your legal entity name appears as the “seller”of your apps. For example, “Apple” is the company name and “Apple, Inc” is theseller name. When users tap your company name, they see all of the apps youhave on the store.
Screenshots and App Previews
Screenshots
When creating screenshots to be posted tothe store, follow these guidelines:
- Don’t combine multiple app screens in thearea designed for a single app screen.
- Take screenshots on the target device (notin iOS Simulator). To do this, hold down the Power button and press the Homebutton. The screenshot is saved to the Camera Roll.
- Provide screenshots in portrait orlandscape mode.
- Use the highest resolution Retina devicesto make the screenshots.
- Only add minimal graphic overlays when it’snecessary to explain the image.
- If your app behaves differently in otherlanguages, you may localize screenshots. Before taking the screenshots, set theiPhone or iPad language from Settings > General > International >Language. Set the Mac language from System Preferences > Language & Region.
- Don’t reference specific prices in your appscreenshots. Referencing a local currency can mislead customers in other storeterritories and cause confusion.
The first screenshot appears as a searchresult on the device App Store on iPhone and iPad if no app preview is available,so place the best screenshot first. For details on screenshot requirements,read ScreenshotProperties.
App Preview (Optional)
An app preview demonstrates the features,functionality, and user interface of your app in a short video that users canwatch right on the App Store. For specifications, see AppPreview Properties.
When creating an app preview, follow theseguidelines:
- To upload your app preview, you will needSafari 8 and OS X 10.10 or later. For the full set of requirements andspecifications, see AppPreview Properties.
- You can upload an app preview only when theapp is in an editable state or when you are submitting a new version.
- You can submit app previews for an app forall iOS and tvOS devices except 3.5-inch.
- App Previews are not currently available onthe App Store for iMessage
- The app preview you upload will be visiblefor all localizations.
- After you capture your video, you can editit using your favorite video editor, including iMovie or Final Cut Pro X(see CreatingApp Previews with iMovie and Final Cut Pro X).
- When your app appears in a search result onthe App Store, the first thing displayed is a frame from your app preview,called the poster frame. To select your poster frame, seeEditingthe Poster Frame for Your App Preview.
- After you upload your app preview, it may takeup to 24 hours to be processed. Once it has finished processing, you can playback the video by clicking the Play button on the poster frame under Versionson the App Details page.
- You can remove your app preview at anytime, but you can edit and resubmit it only when the app is in an editablestate.
Creating App Previews with iMovie and Final Cut Pro X
iMovie comes with every Mac and makes iteasy to create great-looking app previews; with it, you can edit screenrecording videos and customize your preview with titles, transitions, asoundtrack, and voiceover. Final Cut ProX, available on the Mac App Store, combines power and flexibility to giveyou even more control when creating your preview. Eleven titles designed toshowcase apps in action are included with iMovie, and are availablehere as a free download for Final Cut Pro X.

Uploading Screenshots and App Previews
There are two ways to upload yourscreenshots to the App Store. You can use a Transporter XML feed to deliverscreenshots in batches, as described in App Metadata Specification and Transporter User Guide,or you can deliver them from the Version section of your app’s page in iTunesConnect, as described below. App previews can be delivered only in iTunesConnect.
